  • Leadership Development: Equipping women with skills to lead and advocate for their rights in their workplaces and communities.
  • Access to Finance: Partnering with microfinance institutions to offer low-interest loans and grants to women-led businesses.
  • Gender Advocacy Campaigns: Raising awareness and advocating for policies that address gender-based challenges in the informal economy.

This program has already transformed the lives of many women, enabling them to achieve financial independence and leadership roles.

Youth Empowerment Initiative

The Youth Empowerment Initiative aims to prepare the next generation of informal workers for a tech-driven economy. This initiative includes:

  • Entrepreneurial Training: Courses and workshops designed to foster innovation and teach essential business skills.
  • Seed Funding Opportunities: Providing grants and loans to young entrepreneurs to kickstart their business ideas.
  • Digital Skills Training: Offering training in areas like e-commerce, digital marketing, and IT basics to enhance employability.

This initiative ensures young workers are equipped with the tools needed to thrive in an ever-changing economic landscape.

Social Security Advocacy

Recognizing the lack of social protection in the informal sector, UNIWA’s Social Security Advocacy program works to bridge this gap. The program offers:

  • Enrollment Assistance: Helping members register for national health insurance and pension schemes.
  • Education Campaigns: Workshops on the importance of savings, retirement planning, and accident insurance.
  • Affordable Coverage: Collaborating with insurance providers to offer tailored plans for informal workers.

This advocacy ensures our members and their families are protected during times of financial uncertainty.

Sustainable Livelihoods Program

The Sustainable Livelihoods Program focuses on promoting resilience and eco-friendly practices among informal workers. Key initiatives include:

  • Training on Sustainable Practices: Providing workshops on eco-friendly packaging, sustainable farming, and energy-efficient methods.
  • Market Access: Connecting members with platforms to sell environmentally conscious products.
  • Community Projects: Encouraging collective action for sustainable development, such as waste management and recycling efforts.

This program ensures that our members adopt practices that not only benefit their businesses but also contribute positively to the environment.

Capacity Building and Skill Development

Our capacity-building programs aim to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of informal workers. Activities include:

  • Technical Training: Providing hands-on training in various trades and crafts.
  • Financial Literacy: Educating members on managing income, budgeting, and securing loans effectively.
  • Leadership Workshops: Empowering members to take on leadership roles within their associations and communities.

These programs create a skilled and confident workforce that is better equipped to face challenges and seize opportunities.
